Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

This fragment, which preserves the incipit of the text, lists a number of festivals including some rarely attested ones, and possibly mentions “His Majesty” (restored in line obv. i 5).

i 6: Apropos this passage Weeden 2011: 151 stresses that UDKAM MAḪ-za here marks the tt- stem in the Hittite word for “day” and is thus of no use in determining the word behind free-standing MAḪ. The meaning is perhaps “the Great Day,” the date of which will have been obvious to the readers in the present context.

iv 2′: The festival of the maḫuila-bread (for the reading, see already Soysal 2016: 425) is perhaps identical with the muḫḫuelašši-festival attested in other cult inventories.

iv 3′: The mention of a “festival of the daḫanga” is a hint that this inventory concerns the area of Nerik, home of this sacred building (Lamante 2014).
